The history of windows & window blinds
Although windows and blinds are used in the same area and the history is what I would call cause and affect, the timing and purpose is quit different. Window had started thousands of years ago with just being a hole in the wall. The blinds had come much later but had been created for the opposite purpose. You see windows where created to let light and air in, while blinds where created to limit the light and slowdown the air from rushing in.
Modern windows are usually covered or glazed in some type of transparent or translucent material, and a typical window blinds are made up of several long horizontal or vertical slats of various types of hard material, including, plastic, wood or metal which are held together by cords that run through the blind slats to block the window light escaping through.
he Romans were the first known to use glass for windows, a technology likely first produced in Roman Egypt, in Alexandria ca. 100 AD. Paper windows were economical and widely used in ancient China, Korea and Japan. In England, glass became common in the windows of ordinary homes only in the early 17th century whereas windows made up of panes of flattened animal horn were used as early as the 14th century.
Window Blinds are believed to have started in Egypt but there's no solid proof.
The one thing that we do know about the first modern window blind was that it was credited by an inventor much later in history. Edward Bevan who patented the first venetian blind in London, England on December 11, 1769.
As for the technical aspect of the matter window blinds needed a patent where window could not have received a patent. After all windows are just holes in the wall and everyone has the right to do that anywhere they wish to do so as long as it's on their property, where window blinds is a product made of material with a system of function and a design.
If you ask people today if they would own a home without blinds you'll always get a simple answer of no do to the privacy we have all grown accustomed to. a manufacture of a Blinds Las Vegas company has told us that today people will spend up to 20k just to have blinds that look more elegant than the common home, and SunOff Blinds of Las Vegas had told us how people will buy homes that have window blinds already just to take them down so they can personalize their Las Vegas home with their own new custom blinds spending thousands.
The one thing is for sure we all have windows and we all have window blinds...
